Kyoto Hotels Maiko Dance

Kyoto Hotels Maiko Dance

Kyoto Hotels Holiday

If you go on holiday in Kyoto Japan you will probably end up staying at Kyoto Hotels. Kyoto hotels are varied, however, in their level of service and number of amenities, but also in their degree of traditional or western setup, services, decor, and amenities. Personally, I would rather stay at Kyoto ryokan than Kyoto hotels, but there are pros and cons to be weighed by each person contemplating a Kyoto holiday.

Kyoto Hotels vs. Kyoto Ryokan

Kyoto hotels will have a lot of amenities that Kyoto ryokan may or may not have, and some of these are amenities that many western travellers on holiday will find to be very important, if not essential. For example, Kyoto hotels will have western-style toilets. Not the first thing you think about when planning a holiday, is it? But when planning a Kyoto holiday, or any holiday to South East Asia, one has to think about and research these things, and decide which things are worth sacrificing for an authentic experience and which things will push the balance in favor of Kyoto hotels western style.

Japanese Ryokan vs. Kyoto Hotels

On the other hand, if you can handle the possibility of a room with a toilet that is little more than a porcelain hole in the ground, there are some definite advantages and experiences that a Japanese ryokan has to offer, usually things not available in Kyoto hotels. Onsen, for instance. I love onsen. I think onsen would be worth the inconvenience of giving up Kyoto hotels western-style toilets. Especially if you are staying at a Japanese ryokan that has a small onsen-fed tub in each bedroom. Obviously you will pay more for this kind of amenity than for your basic bread-and-butter traditional accomodations in a western-style Kyoto hotels, but it could be worth it.

Kyoto Hotels Sightseeing

The only other major consideration, aside from the general consideration of amenities, is the consideration of sightseeing; will Kyoto hotels be closer to the attractions and sights that you are going to see than the Japanese ryokan? Sometimes they will be about an equal distance, but sometimes Japanese ryokan are located a little further from the heart of town than the Kyoto hotels, and then if you are thinking about walking around town to see the sights, you may prefer to stay at Kyoto hotels that are practically on the doorstep of the sights you would like to see. However, the Japanese public transportation is so good and so reliable that if you really want to you can still stay at the Japanese ryokan, ride to the heart of the city in the morning, tour the same as the guests at the Kyoto hotels, but go back to a nice hot onsen at night (have I got you convinced yet?). So pick your accomodations, pick your flight, and get your butt to Japan!
